Let’s start September with Open Minds… Thursday, 4th of September, 2014 Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Abuja Guest Reading Session 4.30pm at Savannah Suites Hotel, Area 3, Abuja. Odia Ofeimun will be coming to town, reading from works like ‘The Poet Lied’, ‘London Letters’, and ‘I will Ask Questions With The Stones If They Take My Voice’. This is the order of events – come on time, get a seat, be entertained with some poetry, listen intently as Ofeimun reads, BUY one or two of his books (very important), follow Ofeimun as he reads some more, ask questions, mingle a little or a lot (it depends on you), then go home with a nice warm tingle inside. Friday, 5th of September, 2014 Abuja Literary Society (ALS) Open Mic 7pm at the Transcorp Hilton Bring it. Whatever your own brand of creativity - poetry, short story, song, drama, rambling speech with no beginning and no end - as long as it starts and stops within a five to ten minute window, bring it. We will listen quietly, we will applaud your courage and creativity, we will discuss your work, and we will tell you what we really think about it. Order of events: come early, ask for the Performance List, put your name down and wait your turn. Its first come, first served. No shunting. When your name is called, stand up, take a deep breath and do your thing. Then chin up and take the critique, or the rousing applause, whichever. Go back to your seat. Don’t sulk. Or gloat. Or take it out on the next person. Laugh. There will be a lot to laugh about. But if youre not really the type to perform in front of people. No problem. Come and sit in the middle or the back, or the front if you like, and just listen. No problem at all.
