Let’s talk love. (insta-love) I’ve been seeing this phrase - TopicsExpress

Let’s talk love. (insta-love) I’ve been seeing this phrase in a lot of reviews (not just my own, so I’m not referencing that). My question is; what do you consider insta-love? Most contemporary romances are, by definition, about love. So what makes one instant? And is there a difference? I’m asking because my definition would be saying I love you in the first 10 pages. They meet. Make eyes. Do the dirty. Plan a wedding. But a lot of times I see the phrase thrown around and the I Love You doesn’t even come until the end of the book. Is it confused with lust and attraction? (I’ll admit that I loved my husband at first sight 17 years ago. He walked across the parking lot in 1997 and I was like YES HIM. It was very Twilight. I feel you, Bella Swan) But doesn’t attraction start somewhere? The only trope I can think of that may not fit this mold is friends-to-lovers. Again, isn’t one person in love first? Essentially if a book spans 15 years and someone finally goes, “Oh my gah. IT WAS YOU,” there’s still someone who saw it coming from a mile away. I don’t know what the definition is and how a writer can avoid it. A cute-meet occurs and it develops from there. An interest. A spark. A finger brush that sets your panties on fire. I see you. You see me. Let’s see where it can go? So I’m curious. Let’s discuss insta-love and how you define it. Xoxox Amber
