Level 1 Awareness of autistic spectrum conditions Course dates The dates are 10th and 11th September at Monkton Park Chippenham A further course is available 2nd and 3rd October at Trowbridge What’s this course about? This course provides an introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions, covering key area of knowledge and exploring important themes such as individuality, communication, behaviour and person centred support. Entry requirements There are no formal entry requirements for this course. We welcome anyone with an interest in gaining greater awareness of autistic spectrum conditions. Cost of the course The course will be fully funded for anyone unemployed and in receipt of benefits. Course format This is a classroom-based course which includes small group work and is learner- led, meaning that you’ll be actively involved in researching the subject and engaging with the group for maximum benefit - all good fun and a great way to learn. Who will benefit from attending? The course is aimed at people who want to gain further insight into autism and for parents/carers of children or young people who are on the autistic spectrum. Learning aims and objectives The course covers key areas of what the autistic spectrum is and explores how to use effective and tailored support to empower the individual. By the end of this course learners will: • Understand the areas in which individuals with an autistic spectrum condition characteristically have difficulties • Understand the behaviours exhibited by some individuals with an autistic spectrum condition • Understand how to contribute to the person-centred support of an individual who has an autistic spectrum condition • Understand how to communicate effectively with individuals on the autistic spectrum Course duration This is a two-day course preceded by a brief and informal induction conducted over the telephone to find out more about your specific needs and expectations. The course runs from 9.30am - 3.30pm. Will I be assessed? The course is assessed by completion of a single follow-up written assignment. Learners will have full support from a named assessor. Will I gain a qualification? On satisfactory completion learners will receive a City & Guilds unit accreditation - Introductory awareness of autistic spectrum. This stand-alone unit of study sits on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and is worth 2 credits.
