Leviticus 1:1-4, NKJV Now the Lord called to Moses, and spoke - TopicsExpress

Leviticus 1:1-4, NKJV Now the Lord called to Moses, and spoke to him from the tabernacle of meeting, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: When any one of you brings an offering to the Lord, you shall bring your offering of the livestock---of the herd and of the flock. If his offering is a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish; he shall offer it of his own free will at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord. Then he shall put his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him. While the days of connecting with God through animal sacrifices expired with the once-for-all sacrifice of Jesus, there is still much to learn in the ancient practice. As you can, the very best animals of the flock were chosen and the one sacrificing held the animal as its life was poured out on his behalf. This was clearly a very serious and profound moment for those who wished to draw close to God. Sacrifice isnt always a clear concept in our culture of abundance. We often feel cheated when things are taken from us or when something is required of us that we believe is costly. But here, we see the willingness of the worshipper and the deep sense that access to God isnt a given. Yes, Jesus sacrifice holds that door open for us each day, but the seriousness and significance of His sacrifice hasnt diminished in any way. We meet with God at an enormous price. The fact that God provided the Lamb rather than requiring it from us in no way makes the sacrifice smaller. In fact, it is the greatest price ever paid.
