Levy may be about to turn in his grave The first application - TopicsExpress

Levy may be about to turn in his grave The first application for the import of Genetically Modified foods has appeared at the Zambia National Biosafety Authority. There is little doubt that soon Monsanto, Cargill, Syngenta and Dupont who now control most of Southern Africas seed companies will soon apply for permission to introduce GMO seed to our farmers. We should all be aware that allowing even one GMO seed into Zambia is likely to kill our global reputation as the last market in Africa that can guarantee supply of GM-free food. Of course products containing GM have been sneaking in for ages and at least with Shoprites application well begin to know what they are. Perhaps GRZ will give retailers permits to continue importing finished goods to keep consumers happy but we suggest a time limit is set on importing these products. This will stimulate local capacity to produce GM-free alternatives in Zambia to take advantage of increasing global demand for natural food. This would be a win- win-win for Zambia- socially, economically and environmentally. Think carefully, there is no way back from GM contamination in our seed Any doubt? please watch... -Philipines experience- 10 Years of Failure, Farmers Deceived by GM Corn https://youtube/watch?v=hCuWs8K9-kI&feature=share -Indias experience- Seeds of Debt vimeo/115130942 -Argentinas experience - filmsforaction.org/articles/argentina-the-country-that-monsanto-poisoned/ Shaping a Viable Future- Grassroots Trust
