Lewis Hamilton’s pole position proved Mercedes’ early season domination in the 2014 F1 Malaysian GP! Hamilton and teammate Nico Rosberg swopped leads in all 3 practice sessions. Eventually Hamilton edged out Rosberg and became the most successful Briton qualifier en route to pole position. Rosberg had to settle for 3rd position behind Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel. The reigning World Champion will start on the clean side of the track in 2nd position and hopes to challenge the Silver Arrows team to start his title defend. Vettel’s teammate Daniel Ricciardo posted the 5th fastest time in Q3 clearly not affected by the pending appeal of his podium disqualification in Australia. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen were in the thick of the fight during Q3. Raikkonen seemed to feel much more comfortable in his car as he challenged the Mercedes team throughout practice sessions. The Finn will start the race in 6th position while Alonso did better in 4th position despite a clash with Toro Rosso’s rookie Daniil Kvyat which resulted in a damaged left front suspension. McLaren’s Jenson Button was beaten again by his rookie teammate Kevin Magnussen. Magnussen who will start the race in 8th position while Button in 10th position.
