LewisGale Hospitals Awarded Top Grades for Patient Safety When it comes to patient safety, all four LewisGale Regional Health System hospitals were awarded top scores by Leapfrog, an independent industry watchdog. Two of the hospitals, LewisGale Medical Center and LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, received an “A”, the highest grade possible. The other two hospitals, LewisGale Hospital Pulaski and LewisGale Hospital Alleghany, received a “B”. The grades (A to F) are designed to rate how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. “We are pleased to have reached this milestone in our journey to provide the absolute best patient care possible,” said Dr. Richard Embrey, Chief Medical Officer, LewisGale Regional Health System. “Our success is solely due to the passion, commitment and hard work of the superb nurses, physicians and staff at LewisGale. “ The Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single grade. More than 2,500 U.S. hospitals were assigned scores, with about 32% receiving an A grade, and 26% receiving a grade of “B”. “While achieving the highest rating for two of our hospitals might appear as an end in itself, for us it is just a beginning. Our focus is on our patients, and LewisGale is excited to work every single day to improve patient care, and to be able to provide objective evidence of our commitment to that mission.” For more information about the scores, visit hospitalsafetyscore.org.
