Lex Luger bodyslams Yokozuna on the U.S.S. Intrepid: July 4, 1993 WWF World Heavyweight Champion Yokozuna and his manager, Mr. Fuji, issued a challenge to any American to defend the U.S.A.’s honor and slam the nearly 600-pound champion on the Fourth of July in 1993. The challenge would take place aboard the U.S.S Intrepid aircraft carrier. Many tried, including football and basketball players as well as Macho Man Randy Savage, Rick Steiner and Crush. They all failed. Then a helicopter landed on the carrier, and Lex Luger emerged wearing a Stars and Stripes shirt. Luger answered the challenge, ripped off his shirt and stared down the giant Samoan. Yoko charged Luger, who nailed the man beast with the steel plate in his forearm, and slammed the sumo. (Watch Luger answer the challenge after the jump.) Luger then embarked on a cross-country bus tour aboard the Lex Express to build up his championship match at SummerSlam against Yokozuna. The match was a letdown as the WWF didn’t pull the trigger on Luger winning the belt. Luger nailed Yoko with the metal plate in his arm, knocking the champion out of the ring and causing a a count-out. Luger would never win the title.~Roe
