Lexi needs the perfect home. Were looking for a home for Lexi. She needs a very special home, preferably in a rural or semi rural area, and preferably with another dog for company and people who will love her and be patient with her. Lexi is a friendly, loving, highly intelligent and sensitive dog. She can be quite nervous and is finding living near a town very difficult. Which is why we need to re home her in her perfect home. Lexi has been part of our family for a year now, and we love her very much, but have sadly reached the understanding that our home is not right for her. Lexi came to us, an untrained, farm dog - shed never set a paw in a house before and had never worn a collar or lead. When she arrived at our house we had to carry her up the stairs because she didnt know how to climb them. She was very friendly and gentle with all of us, including our 11 yr old child, but was very nervous and bark-y when she met people in the street. We quickly learned that many things make Lexi nervous. Heres the things that make her scared: Bikes Motorbikes Car trailers Some other dogs (but shes very friendly and gentle with most dogs) New people (especially bigger people, though shes happy with people who own dogs and people whove spent a lot of time with her) Cheese graters! (very weird) Food blenders Vacuum cleaners Turning on the washing machine People hugging or grabbing each other Town (the noise, roads and lots of people, make her very, very scared) Lexi is amazing to train. She learns very fast. Within weeks she could sit, lie down, go on the mat and wait and come here. At training classes she runs round traffic cones and jumps through hoops like a show dog! Our trainer has suggested that she would be good enough to be an assistance dog. What makes Lexi happy? Her pack (once shes got used to people she loves curling up with them) Most other dogs. (sometimes she barks at small terriers) Bones Leftovers Training (Lexi loves training and it makes her properly tired) Long walks Sticks in the river Tennis balls Playing with toys - tug of war, flinging around old teddies Having loads of fuss and strokes Beds! Weve trained Lexi to many things. The commands she knows are: sit, wait, come back, lie down, in your bed, speak and quiet (sometimes she finds it hard to be quiet, but is getting steadily better.) One thing Lexi is great at is being left alone. She shows no signs of stress when left alone in the house. She just curls up on the sofa and sleeps (usually near the door in case burglars come!) We will look after Lexi until we find her the perfect home. We want her to be as happy as she can be, and think that she will make a loving, happy family member for the right people. If anyone is interested, let me know and Ill give you more information about her. Please pass onto to people who might be interested. Thank you.
