Liam status: A little over two weeks ago, Amanda knocked on my door and said, Hey Sam, wanna come look at this stray thats been wandering around? As I usually do, I responded with a yes, thinking I was about to see another random stray Texas dog that I would feel very sorry for but would not be able to take as my own. However, Amanda knows that I love dogs, and despite how small my trailer is, she knew that if I found the right dog, I would keep it. This was the third dog she had introduced me to in the past year. In the two previous instances, I knew immediately that they were not my dogs. I cant tell you why...but in my heart I knew that when the right dog found me, Id know it, and I was ready to wait a long time for it. When Liam came running up to me and buried his head in my lap, fuzzy and sweet as could be, it didnt even take me two seconds to realize that one such dog had found me. It was pretty immediate. If I was going to have a dog any time soon, it was going to be this one. I decided to give being a dog mom a try. The beginning was a bit rough. Liam was not used to being constricted to one certain area, and therefore he was incredibly whiney and protested every time I walked away. He would wake up very early with whines and complaints of all sorts, and quite often he would not only wake me up, but also the people around us. Fortunately, I live with incredibly kind and patient people who understood what I was going through. But sure enough, after a few weeks of getting to know each other (and a very important visit to the vet), I have completely fallen in love with this dog. He now sleeps in my trailer with me, which makes him much happier than sleeping outside, and our mornings consist of a walk or a run, some food, and then more snuggling. He is incredibly well behaved to the point where I can leave him in my trailer unattended and he doesnt touch a thing, nor does he pee anywhere. He doesnt chew on things, he isnt aggressive at all...in fact, I think my biggest complaint is that he snuggles an absurd amount...almost too much (is that even possible?) I dont know how I got so lucky, but I am incredibly grateful. Hes a wonderful dog, and Im so happy he found me. For those who asked how hes doing, the whole point of this status was to say this: hes doing so well. Were still working and improving on certain things, but that doesnt ever really go away, and the things hes improved on already have made a huge difference. Hes a keeper. =)
