Liberal, conservative and libertarian Americans embrace Adam - TopicsExpress

Liberal, conservative and libertarian Americans embrace Adam Smith’s “theory” that markets generally lead to the best economic outcomes. (“It is not the benevolence of the baker that provides our daily bread, but her profit motive.”) However, differences arise when we begin to realize that the “invisible hand” breaks down in practice. Liberals often find it difficult to get opposing economic views across in a way that is not simply promoting a counter ideology (“socialism”) but asking for consideration of how best to achieve the common good? Leading questions followed by active listening might be the best way to bridge gaps in knowledge and beliefs that lead to hardened economic ideological positions. I would appreciate any help from BTD members (particularly conservatives) on how to best frame these questions. Thanks.
