Libertad a Presos Politicos! Mario Luna, spokesperson for the Yaqui community of Vicam, Sonora was arrested by the Mexican State for leading the resistance against Carlos Slims Aqueducto Independencia, which will divert water from the Yaqui River to the city of Hermosillo, Sonora in order to create the infrastructure for Slim to open new maquiladoras similar to the development of Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez. The diversion from the Yaqui river would devastate the agro-ecology that the Yaqui tribe has desperately held onto in their region. Luna was disappeared by state forces in Hermosillo, by his account the state agents argued over what to do with him, receiving contradictory orders, and even went so far as to take photos with him as a live capture before he was processed and removed to a federal holding institution. Luna continues to be held in an effort to break the Yaqui blockade of the freeway that they have maintained near Vicam, Sonora.
