(Liberty Ship) SAN PABLO (Panama) - 1964 (exact date unknown) - Photographed while she was sailing upbound in the Welland Canal just south of the guard gate in Thorold, Ontario, Canada.. This was the only time she visited the Great Lakes.. Original Photograph by Robert Walton.. Her keel was laid down on 28 September 1943 by the Delta Shipbuilding Company at New Orleans, Louisiana as PAUL TULANE and on 20 December she was commissioned as the Armadillo-class Liberty tanker USS KANGAROO (IX-121). After entering war service she set out for Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, where upon arrival, she commenced refuelling operations for ships of the United States Navy.. She was decommissioned at Norfolk, Virginia on 13 May 1946 and was sold into merchant service later that year as PAUL TULANE.. Renamed MOSTANK in 1948 then SEABRAVE in 1950. In 1954 she was converted from a tanker to a dry cargo vessel at Scheidam, Holland, renamed NIBORIO then returned to service.. Renamed ANDROS SEAFARER in 1957 then SAN PABLO in 1963. On 1 October 1968, after a 24-year career, she arrived off Kaohsiung, Taiwan where she was later beached and cut up for scrap early in 1969..
