Libra Lessons: the balance of giving and receiving. Why is it so - TopicsExpress

Libra Lessons: the balance of giving and receiving. Why is it so hard for us to receive? Is it because we are taught it is better to give? People compliment us and we dont even allow ourselves to hear their praise before answering the call to compliment them in return. I had a client share this Indonesian phrase with me yesterday, Terima kasih. From survivalphrases: In Indonesian Thank you. is Terima kasih. The first word of the phrase, terima, means ’to accept’. This is followed by kasih, which in Indonesian means ’love’. And the entire expression again is terima kasih. Literally, you are saying “it is accepted with love”. It is accepted with love! Now thats how to say Thank you!!! Today, the same client gave me some incredible feedback... amazing advice that will be reflected in my practice moving forward. However, hand-on-heart, I must admit I was unable to accept her words with love. It felt like Red Pen time and that I was receiving a failing grade. It can be so difficult for us to receive feedback through our strongly conditioned defense mechanisms. Isnt it interesting that feedback from a microphone or amplifier is one of the worst sounds of the aural palette? But just as Peter Townshend, Jimi Hendrix and so many courageous creators since have taught us to hear the beauty available in musical feedback, may it be so in that of the spoken word. It is my prayer to soften my ears so that I may truly receive the gifts I was once conditioned to reject as critical attack. Time to point the mic straight at the amp and dig on some heavenly feedback. Terima kasih! -Astrolonaut
