Libraries, a better investment than gold? A new report from an independent firm of economists has found that NSW’s public libraries deliver benefits that are worth at least three times the cost of running them – a fact that will come as no surprise to NSW’s 3.34 million registered library users. If you put $100 into gold last year, it would be worth around $110 today. Compare that with the $320 return on every $100 invested in NSW public libraries. Libraries are about so much more than books and their importance to local communities is only growing. Residents valued library services include borrowing books, ebooks, DVDs and other items; library programs, including children’s storytimes, author talks, book clubs, computer training, and other informal courses. So have you visited your local library lately? You don’t want to be missing out on all that value!
