Licensed Secondary Math Teacher Opening MIGIZI Communications is hiring a high quality and innovative math teacher in our Native Academy Connections project. The Math Teacher will join our team of professional educators and work to improve academic outcomes for American Indian high school students in Minneapolis. Cover letter and resume of interested candidates should be sent electronically to [email protected] Job Description: NATIVE ACADEMY Math Teacher Position and Project Summary This is a full-time grant funded position at MIGIZI Communications with support through the US Department of Education, Office of Indian Education. The Native Academy Connections project is a 48-month demonstration project that, with successful implementation, will continue through the end of the 2016-17 school year. This innovative education project will work with American Indian high school students in Minneapolis during the school day, after school and in the summer. The Connections components of the project will give the Math Teacher the opportunity to work as part of an interdisciplinary team, require significant accountability, and necessitate the use of creativity to provide students with relevant, engaging and rigorous programming. Knowledge and experience in project-based learning is a great plus. This year-round Math Teacher position carries a competitive salary and benefits. Performance Objectives 1.0 Coordinate Core Connections activities for all students. 2.0 Teach rigorous, standards-based mathematics courses utilizing innovative methods including projects and hands-on activities that build mastery of content. 3.0 Provide instructional support to teachers and academic support to students in our partner schools, after school and during summer program. 4.0 Monitor and report student performance and progress toward education goals. 5.0 Assist in planning, coordination and delivery of Native Academy Connections project including dual credit coursework. 6.0 Attend partner and All Nations team meetings and provide a high level of participation. Proficiencies/Skills Needed Minnesota Teaching License: Secondary Mathematics. Valid drivers license and good driving record. Ability to design or follow curriculum and instructional design, and teaching strategies. Advanced training and experience. Teaching and mentoring skills with Native students and their parents. Strong assessment and interpretation skills Ability to incorporate culturally relevant project-based activities into curriculum. Strong interpersonal skills. Some knowledge of evaluation theory and practice and internal evaluation techniques. Ability to motivate students to higher levels of accomplishment. Good writing, speaking, and analytical ability. Ability to use technology, software and networks to enhance students learning experience. Ability to work individually and in groups with students, parents, and colleagues to assist students in meeting goals. Responsibilities 1. Help coordinate work plan and liaison with partner schools and parents. 2. Teach classes and provide tutoring for HS course offerings and dual credit. 3. Maintain records, lessons, attendance and grades. 4. Manage student behavior to promote a successful learning environment 5. Develop success strategies for every student. 6. Develop creative solutions to student problems. 7. Develop strategies and approaches for student academic improvements and goals. 8. Write reports and work with the staff and evaluator to deliver required reports. 9. Learn computer functions and software on an ongoing basis to improve teaching. 10. Maintain orderly computer files with regular inputs to the database. 11.
