Lieutenant General Mai Quang Phan presents gifts to delegates PANO – Lieutenant General Mai Quang Phan, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam’s People’s Army (VPA), warmly welcomed a delegation of Vinh Long province’s natives who had rendered good services for national revolution. At the reception on August 11th in Hanoi, delegates recalled the brave combats of Vinh Long province’s troops and people in resistance wars against foreign invaders and in the national construction and protection cause. The province has nearly 17,000 martyrs, about 4,000 war invalids, 2,332 heroic Vietnamese mothers and more than 2,000 soldiers imprisoned by the enemy. General Phan affirmed that the VPA’s officers and soldiers have always respected and showed deep gratitude to great contributions of heroes and fallen troops, as well as those rendering good services for national salvation to the revolutionary cause. He informed the delegation about the Ministry’s outcomes of conducting policies and gratitude activities over the past years. He highlighted the proposals relating to people rendering good services for the revolution, the search and gathering martyrs’ remains, the building of gratitude and comradeship houses, the overcoming of the aftermath of natural disasters, and the support for locals in hunger eradication and poverty alleviation. Since 2006, the whole army has constructed more than 10,000 gratitude and comradeship houses, and contributed over VND 600 billion to the Gratitude Fund. The Ministry’s organs and units are caring for nearly 1,440 heroic Vietnamese mothers and sponsoring more than 1,000 martyrs’ children. They have also employed over 200 children of war invalids and sick soldiers. Translated by Mai Huong
