A native of St. Martinville and resident of Jeanerette, Mrs. Gary passed away on Monday September 1, 2014 at 5:40pm at a Lafayette hospital. “Bern” as she was affectionately known, loved her home and always welcomed any visitors with fresh coffee and loved to cook meals for her family. She was, what many people would agree, “one of the best cooks in Cajun Country.” She also loved her flowers and helping others. She was always asking if there was anything she could do to help everyone. Mrs. Gary was always willing to listen and offer her words of wisdom and encouragement. She will be missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Gary retired after 26 years with the Iberia Parish School Board Cafeteria Program as Cafeteria Manager at St. Charles Elementary School. She will be remembered by many who enjoyed her school lunches and those who enjoyed working with her. She was a devout woman of faith and could be found saying her rosary every evening. Mrs. Gary also loved doing word puzzles and keeping new recipes she would run across and try, but above all else her family was her heart and soul. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Penny Gary Bodin and husband Bolden Jr.; sons, Carroll Gary and wife Wanda, Charles Gary Jr. and wife Connie, David Gary and wife Priscilla; grandchildren, Angela Bodin Landry, Antoinette Bodin Babineaux, Amy Bodin, Bolden “Paul” Bodin III, Amanda Gary Kemper, Seneca Gary Cantrelle, Maggie Gary Lavender, Emmy Gary Michel, Megan Gary, Blake Gary, Hillary Gary, Braedon Gary, Karsyn Gary; nine great grandchildren and one due in January; sisters, Lydia Laviolette Gary, Mildred Laviolette Geoffroy, Ruby Laviolette Dore and husband Wayne; brothers, Adam Laviolette Jr. and wife JoAnn, and Bernard Laviolette Sr. and wife Melba. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Charles Gary Sr.; parents, Adam Laviolette Sr. and Mary Olive Albert Laviolette; sisters, Gertrude Laviolette, Olivia Laviolette Broussard (John); brother, Gilbert Laviolette ( Georgia); and son, Anthony “Tony” Gary. Pallbearers will be sons, Carroll, Charles, David Gary, her son-in-law Bolden Bodin Jr. and her grandsons Bolden “Paul” Bodin III and Braedon Gary. Honorary Pallbearers will be Blake Gary, Errol Gary, Bernard Laviolette Sr., Bernard Laviolette Jr., and Adam Laviolette Jr. The family would like to thank the Physical Therapy Team at Maison Teche Nursing Home, Dr. Paul Gulotta, Dr. Son Nguyen, Dr. Stephen Boudreaux, and the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Intensive Care Unit for all of their care and compassion given to Mrs. Gary. Family and friends are encouraged to sign Mrs. Gary’s online guestbook. David Funeral Home of Jeanerette, 400 Provost St. (337)276-5151 is in charge of arrangements.
