Life Legacy Nola Jean Jares, 78, of Winner, SD passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014 at her home in Winner. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 10:30am at the Christ Lutheran Church in Winner, SD. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Christ Lutheran Church from 5-7pm with a prayer service beginning at 7:00pm. Jean was born November 20, 1935 to Jacob and Hulda Boes on their farm south of Herrick, South Dakota. Jean grew up a member of a large family. She attended country school and later graduated from Burke High School in 1954. On September 2, 1962 Jean married James J. Jares in a double marriage ceremony including her sister Shirley (Boes) and Ivan Vosika. The Jares made their lifetime home in Winner, South Dakota. They had one child Jason J. Jares. Jean worked for optometrist Dr. Milton Tobin for many years. She later became a homemaker and volunteered in many community and civic organizations. Jean was a life member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and a life member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Jean was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Jean was an accomplished bowler setting many records at area bowling alleys and tournaments. She enjoyed golf, playing cards, and spending many hours tending her yard. Jean was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Jean is survived by her husband James “Jim” Jares, son Jason (Alison) Jares of Pierre, South Dakota, two granddaughters, sister’s Wanda Engel, Darnytia Kucera, Shirley Vosika, and sister-in-law Opal Boes, and many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Hulda Boes, brother Leon (WWII), brother Naven, and sister’s Orvilla Hanig, and Vivian Klein.
