Life Lesson: If you want something different in your life, you - TopicsExpress

Life Lesson: If you want something different in your life, you have to make changes in behaviour, thought and/or attitude. Another Life Lesson: Changes can be minute in execution but significant in their essence and impact. When we think about making changes, they are rarely small and they are rarely process-oriented (meaning we allow ourselves time do work through them in stages). Many people fall into the all-or-nothing thinking trap, which does a number on the change process and the ease in which we navigate it. Think about it: when it is all or nothing, we often encounter resistance because 1. all is a very big deal, 2. we inherently know that we are likely to struggle in maintaining an all outcome, 3. when failure is imminent we become depressed, discouraged and disappointed, 4. we are human ergo we are not perfect and all is a tall order – especially when we have additional expectations about how that all should come about (think timing, process, outcomes, etc).. Oftentimes the most significant changes cause the most resistance. And that’s ok. Resistance is the ego’s (conscious mind based on subconscious patterning) way of holding us in the patterns which have until now kept us safe – or at least comfortable in the familiar where the processes and outcomes are known. However… we can choose to make change an easy process, one that works with us and for us, one which uses our own momentum to build in a sustainable way. How? Start small. Start by doing something just a little bit different in your day. Take a new route home. Eat lunch in a new location. Read a different genre of book. Go out to a social event. Add in something new. Then, start to examine some parts of your routine (include thoughts, actions, patterns, etc) which do not serve you. By this, I mean if they don’t empower, fulfill, fuel or inspire you, they aren’t working for/with you. Start to make amendments – and make them small. Think tweaking. Let the changes evolve. My challenge for myself – and for anyone who wants to do this with me – is to change three things in my life. For myself, I am going to eliminate three habits which I feel I have outgrown and don’t serve me. Its 3:13, so this is day one….!!
