Life after maxing out in #Destiny Another Destiny post, imagine that! :D Todays story relates to what you can do in the game once you hit the level 20 cap, which we know wont be as quick to reach as it was in the beta, and what choice you can make/take to keep yourself actively coming back for more adventuring. The goal is to make the game feel different every day, which is a huge ambition - and it doesnt necessarily mean content, Head of community Eric Osborne told Digital Spy at #Gamescom. We want you to be able to come in and go, I want to go and play the story today because theres this challenge related to it, or theres a bounty I want to go after, and thats going to lead me down this path to upgrading my Exotic weapon that Im going to take with me into the raid... theres a whole bunch of complexity that we can get into thats going to be really fun for seasoned players to explore. I think we did a pretty good job at supporting a competitive multiplayer set [in Halo] but we werent able [to do it elsewhere] because of technological limitations, and building that engine out to really infuse a lot of additional content for omnivorous players, who make up a pretty good majority of people who [go], Lets play some story, then some co-op stuff, then competitive - who cycle through that mix. Its definitely something the team is looking at, building out that bigger world. How can we give people more content, more activities, more reasons to keep coming back and playing all this stuff the team worked super hard on building? Once you get to [level] 20, youve got the lay of the land, youve probably played a lot of the story, played a lot of the main bulk of the content, said Osborne. You may have one Exotic [item] and a couple of legendary items here and there, but really then your horizons open up and its about [whats next?] With Iron Banner, we did turn that on for a little while, so people see, Hey, we can take a mode that you can got used to, like Control, and make it feel widely different by throwing power on and a separate layer of investment and gear you can go after. It wasnt really demonstrated [in the beta] the potency of what levels really mean at level eight, because everybodys at that level playing field. But once you get getting into the higher end gear, it will really start to matter. You would never be able to walk in there as a level 15 and take on a level 25 guy - youd just get smoked. But like everything else, its optional - youre opting into that experience, you should know what youre getting into to, and know why youre there. Our goal is to build a really rich foundation of stuff we think are huge wins for us - this is what a shooter means to us now in this current generation, and going forward, its about reacting to what people are asking for, he said. Were pretty much going to expand in all directions of the content. Players that want story, or more co-operative or more competitive, we want that all to be there. These arent broken up by activity, right? Its not a multiplayer map pack, its an expansion pass. We called it The Dark Below because theres story in it - its with the Hive - so we really want to expand both peoples understanding of the cool mysteries in the world and let them explore a little bit more, but we also want to open up the aperture where were like - do you want to add more Arena maps or different strikes? What planet do want to go after? Theres a whole bunch of fun stuff we can on that front. The way our level cap works is getting to level 20 is not an insurmountable challenge to overcome - it doesnt take you years, or even months, to do it. We want to build an environment where theres a guy, a level 20 Hunter, he decides he wants to go to Titan - it shouldnt be, Well I cant go to Titan, because Ive invested so much [elsewhere]. Getting to level 20 is an accomplishment, but its not the end of the game. Destiny makes a landing on Tuesday, September 9th, in case you havent heard. You can also buy it for last gen, and then upgrade for free on new gen if you have yet to invest in a new system, which is a nice, welcomed offer.
