Life can be quite tough on some people. Poverty is among us. We may not be able to change the world overnight but we can make a difference in the lives of some or at the least one. This is Miguel. I wrote about him here on facebook a couple of months ago and some fb friends wanted to help but I told them that it was best that we learn more about his real situation so that we may know how to help. I learned recently that the reason why he has resorted to scavenging is because he knows no other way to earn since there are limited job opprtunities that would consider his fragile physical condition today. (I noticed that he is skinny). He has a family in Zamboanga city but he does not go home to them and instead sleeps beside a building at Veterans Avenue. I asked him why? He said that his family is very poor and he does not want to add burden on them but he drops by once in a while to share a little of his meager earnings. I asked him if he was contented with his life today? He quipped that he has no choice. He rather scavenge for scraps and plastics than beg or steal from people. He admitted however, that there were times in the past when he also sniffed rugby to numb him from problems and hunger. (I know this person from the past. He was always silent but happy. Life must have been really hard on him that he totally stopped schooling and decided to live in the streets as a means of survival. I believe that people can change but sometimes, they need help from outside to get started in their new course in life. I am appealing to my friends and relatives who have a little to share. Lets get Miguel out of the streets. Lets start him up with a better future. Lets share a little of our extras. I will also do my share but Im afraid it wont be enough. I will be opening an fb group for this purpose. You will be updated about this cause regularly and let us elect among us, the one to act as treasurer and shall receive and disburse the funds raised for transparency purposes) KINDLY COMMENT IF YOURE WILLING TO HELP SO THAT I MAY INVITE YOU TO THE FB GROUP SOON. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR WANTING TO GET MIGUEL OUT OF THE STREETS. Lets give him a better furutre... NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!
