Life can be so cruel at times. Here was Arsene Wenger in charge of Arsenal for the thousandth time in his managerial career. The club fetes him, and even Alex Ferguson, a long time rival over the years writes an adulatory piece. Wenger himself, meanwhile bills as the game of the season the match against title challengers Chelsea, whose manager not long ago had called him a specialist in failure. No better occasion for revenge, Wenger must have thought.
