Life expectancies are going down in much of America -- even in our backyard. Among the bottom 10 U.S. counties for female life expectancy, two are in Kentucky (Perry County females have LOWEST life expectancy in U.S., 72.65 years; Leslie, 74.12 years). Among the bottom 10 counties for male life expectancy are Perry (no. 3 in the nation), 66.52 years, and Floyd, 66.59 years. These life expectancies compare to those in Iran, Iraq and North Korea. And Cuba, Syria and Libya far outpace these Eastern Kentucky counties. So much for the "axis of evil" and beyond. In Iran and the Palestinian territories, men can expect to live to be 70, but not in Perry or Floyd Co. Women in Iran can expect to live five years longer than women in Perry Co. What would Sen. McConnell and Rep. Rogers say about all this? Probably something along the lines of "Thank God for Mississippi!"
