Life has been substantially better since our return home from months away at the hospital. There have been a ton of honey-do chores for me to catch-up on while Lindsey is taking care of Eva. The largest challenge has been Evas eating. Lindsey has to watch Eva like the NSA while feeding her, and sometimes Eva will still choke. She is still fed breast milk, with a fortifier of special formula added to increase the calories she consumes. While she was inpatient we asked multiple times to switch to a dairy-free fortifier because our other children have had issues with non-human dairy. It never happened. Luckily, our pediatrician agreed and we switched to a non-dairy formula and the difference was staggering. She eats 100% of her bottles and wants more, is significantly less fussy, smiles and giggles frequently, and sleeps almost all night long. She has been eating a lot, gaining weight, and has been rather happy. Eva still has difficulty with swallowing, breathing, and reflux, which makes feeding time (every 2-3 hours) a very stressful event, but Lindsey is incredible. Compared to where weve been, these are good times. I havent been one to talk finances, but I wanted to take a moment to do so. I don’t know what we would have done had it not been for all of the generosity and countless forms of support that have been offered to us. Had it not been for the generosity of family, friends, co-workers, ex-coworkers, ex-teachers, church friends, and complete strangers we would be in a bad financial situation. Over the last few months we have been close to the brink. When we were hurting and lost someone would step forward without us even asking. When I initially set out to write this I was making a list of folks to thank by name, but then I set the post aside and gave a lot of thought about how best to do so. I think a good portion of them wouldnt desire the public recognition. I’d likely forget to include some important names. It also just felt a little weird. Instead, I’ll keep it a bit more general. Plus, some very special gifts involved time, sentiment, and thoughtfulness, and those have been so numerous that my fingers would be numb before half the list was complete. There are a ton of people out there who I’ve never met or even heard about, but I know are out there and have been supporting us in thought and prayer. I cannot understate how important all of these contributions have been to my family. Some folks donated funds directly to us or through a YouCaring page set-up by a few of our friends. I want everyone who donated to know that the funds they gifted paid for the delivery of Josephine and Evangeline, as well as Lindseys time in the hospital. It helped to pay for our gas, meals, sundries, and numerous expenses while weathering this storm. When our most recent medical bill came it was well over $2000. At the time we only had around $300.00 in our bank account. The donations covered the bill. It was amazing, and honestly, very soothing as I didnt have to worry about coming up with the funds. People have been wonderfully supportive during this time. With my deepest heartfelt gratitude I want you to know how appreciative I am. Thank you.
