Life in the Word @the Branch 12/12/14 Genesis 41:1-44:17 / Kings 3:15-4:1 / Acts 7:9-16 At the end……. Mikketz This week’s reading continues the story of Joseph in Egypt. Pharaoh has two dreams, and Joseph is brought out of prison to give the interpretation. The dreams speak of a time of plenty followed by great famine. Pharaoh appoints Joseph as the Viceroy of Egypt and puts him in charge of preparing Egypt for the famine. Joseph marries and has two sons: Manasseh and Ephraim. When the famine strikes, Josephs brothers come to Egypt to buy grain and meet Joseph again, but they do not recognize him because he is now grown up and is a leader in Egypt. Joseph questions his brothers about his father Jacob and brother Benjamin while accusing them of being spies. They are able to return home with grain, but without Simeon, only to return for more grain. This time they must bring Benjamin (which fulfills Josephs dream of his youth when all eleven brothers would bow to him). This portion is filled with poetic justice, but it speaks of when all Israel will recognize who Yeshua of Nazareth is. But just as it is written, Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him. 1 Corinthians 2:9 The Branch
