Life is about balance for all of us and it is no different for a child with CF... actually I think the life of a child who has CF is actually more sensitive to imbalance. Ive been praising God in the last few messages that David has done so well in eating more lately. One of the effects that CF has on the body is to impair the function of the pancrease to produce enzymes. The enzymes help carry the nutrients to the other parts of the body. Enyzmes naturally exist in all living organisms but they die when we cook our food over 110 degrees. These enzymes help our bodies to continue to function properly. In the course of Davids CF experience I have done quite a bit of research on enzymes but not everyone is into all that so I digress :) Since, David has been eating so much, he needs more assistance from external enzymes in carrying nutrients to his body, so weve had to make an adjustment to the amount of capsules that he takes at every meal. Now he is up to seven capsules that he has to take at every meal. Think about that for a minute... imagine if you had to swallow 7 pills everytime you ate so that your body could properly digest your food and if you dont, you would have severe stomach aches... This is really a low number. As he gets older, he will progress to stronger dosages. Next time you sit down to eat a meal, after you thank God for the blessing of the food, thank Him also that you dont share this hardship and ask Him to send us a cure.
