Life is funny at times. I have always been a strong believer in people standing up for what they believe in, even if it means they stand alone against the rest of the crowd. I learned a lot about this many years ago when I worked in one of my many jobs as an addictions counselor. For any of the guys I worked with to achieve success they found they always had to face their old enabling support groups when they started to make change. They used to tell me how interesting it was that in the beginning their old friends would criticize them and try every trick in the book to draw them back in to the old former group, but once they stood their ground and refused to be swayed they eventually had those same members approach them and tell them how proud they were of the change and how much they were respected for it. With that stance they found true freedom from that addiction as well as it gave them the strength to make many changes and become better people.
