Life is interesting, isnt it??? Remember l took my car to the garage a few days ago because the clutch cable broke? Had a new one fitted at a garage l have used for nearly 15 years by a chap who hasnt been there very long, but the times he has worked on my car, there has always been a problem afterwards. l usually try and get the Head Honcho to do the work but in an emergency, this chap, whom l shall call Rob, has to do it. Well, l drove the car out of the garage forecourt only to find l couldnt get any gears without crunching them. lt wasnt like it before the cable broke! l struggled for a day as l had to go to work, but several times had real difficulty finding any gear at all! A friend at work took a quick look and said it had probably been fitted incorrectly.Took it back the following day, only to be told that the clutch was heavy and l would probably need to replace it. Rob explained how a clutch cable was fitted (! As someone who used to run a garage with my ex, and who has done her own servicing/repairs on cars, motorbikes and tractors since l was very young, l really found this quite demeaning! l hate it when people talk down to me, especially if they treat me like a little lady!) and said that there was nothing different that could be done apart from attach it both ends...yeah right! Well, the upshot was that l took it to another local garage, explained the problem and bless em, they dropped everything and fixed it for me, replacing the cable with the correct one in the correct order with a written advisory that the cable had been fitted incorrectly! Needless to say, l have told original garage that l shall not be paying and the boss is fine with it. And he has now lost a customer!
