Life is pretty good. I pretty much do what I want, most of the time. And, I trust my local law enforcement. I know several of those guys, and theyre good people. The incoming sheriff and I have had good conversations about due process, reasonable search and seizure procedures, and I think he has a good head for practical law enforcement. Yes, theres a but coming. Who are they occupying with $5.8M in military equipment? Theres some enemy, and we dont have violent drug cartels or dangerous gangs. What is the local Sheriffs department going to do with a mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicle? Is there some rogue farmer growing unpasteurized milk maybe? Maybe they need that to crash through his gate and survive his hunting rifle. Like I said, we dont have drug cartels or violent gangs here. Were a quiet little country area. I dont have a problem with the rifles and bullet proof armor. I want my local cops to be safe, on those hand full of legitimate hairy situations that may arise. But, thats a lot of weaponry and a lot of overkill.
