Life of Crime-*** The late Elmore Leonard is one of my absolute favorite authors. He had a tumultuous relationship with Hollywood throughout his career. Adaptations of his work rarely live up to the source material. Life of Crime is based off his novel The Switch. The film is a prequel of sorts to Jackie Brown, Quentin Tarantinos adaptation of Leonards Rum Punch. The book that first introduced us to Ordell Robbie and his faithful partner Louis as they delve into kidnapping. It is among the most faithful adaptations of Leonards work, but the tone is just off despite a great cast and script. The Switch is a good novel, but not one of his best. Entertaining and above average, but doesnt rival the best film adaptations like Jackie Brown, Out of Sight & 3:10 to Yuma.
