Life on the Farm - Continues The ins and outs of going out and in OH MY GOD!!!! I am giving them all numbers tomorrow - and they will go out and come in according to the number they wear!!! Yesterday as you recall, there was no mayhem at turn in. MM went first - then Jolee took Charm and I took Valentine. Well that left Bluff, who was screaming and running. After Charm, I thought. How sweet. and ooohhhh how wrong. Bluff it seems is a feckless fool. Tonight they were lined up by the fence to the right of the gate. I grabbed MMs halter and called to him - he stood there with Charm and Bluff. No one moved. Valentine was behind them. I said - come on now (it was starting to rain) - someone come. No one moved. I walked up to him, put his halter on and attempted to lead him. He wouldnt budge. I turned to him and gave him the look and pulled. He finally started forward. Followed by Bluff and Charm. I pulled faster - got him halfway through the gate and he stopped. I spoke sharply and got his butt out of the way so I could close the gate. He continued to stall. I pulled. Drug him into the barn and put him in. He spun around and was looking through the spaces of the barn boards and hollered.. And continued to holler. I grabbed another halter and went back - thinking I would get Charm next - well she and Valentine had moved further up the fence line and were having quite the private conversation. So I grabbed Bluff. Did I mention it was raining? He followed mostly - but kept turning around to look at the girls, who by this time realized that it was time to go in and eat. And they were bouncing back and forth along the fence line. Got Bluff to the barn door. He refused to budge. He did the I am a Giraffe thing and planted his feet. I gave him a piece of my mind (I fear it may have been the very last piece) and told him in no uncertain terms that he was behaving like an ass. I dont care if he WAS in love. She would be coming in as well as soon as he got his butt in and I got Charm. MM is still hollering. Shoved Bluff in his stall. He starts hollering. The Aliens started their huffing. I went back for Charm. The girls had finally stopped bouncing. Well Charm was still bouncing a bit - but then she always does so I didnt think anything of it. Grabbed her and started for the gate. Valentine, who before yesterday, had been living OUTSIDE, decides she is coming too. I tell her to WAIT. Charm bounces. I bounce her inside and put her in her stall, quickly getting out and locking the door. I go back to the nice calm Valentine. Wrong. She is frantic. Racing back and forth. Then stopping at the gate. Shaking slightly. I calmly tell her to back up so I can OPEN the gate and get her so that she can go IN. She doesnt understand . I push gently on her chest and say back. Nada. I use the gate to wedge myself in - hitch her up and do a loopy circle around so that there is room to OPEN THE DAMN GATE. We walk calmly in the barn. The bellowing ceases. Finally. Numbers. Tomorrow.
