Life stories: Sheila - My Life, Their Dream Observer At 17, - TopicsExpress

Life stories: Sheila - My Life, Their Dream Observer At 17, she is a socialite on the Kampala night life. She hardly ever misses the main events in town. She is the host of T-Nation on NTV, which is a teens show about what is cool and happening in town. While her friends dig into burgers, dont be shocked to find her in an aerobics class at Garden City mall with 30-somethings old enough to be her mother. She is considered a top fashionista because she is rarely off when it comes to her outfits. So, what really makes her tick at such a tender age, minus the fact that she is the daughter of activist and proprietor of Awaken Uganda - Frank Gashumba? I find her at her fathers offices on First street, Industrial area. I expect to find her dressed to the nines but to my surprise, she shows up in the boardroom barefooted. She is wearing a simple flowery top and jeans. A hip hop-style chain hangs from her neck; she has square earrings, faint lip gloss on her lips, and her hair is neatly held back. She is carrying a Samsung Galaxy S III, which she keeps caressing lovingly. Since she is always the one interviewing people, she finds it a little odd that she is the subject. This is very weird, I am the one supposed to be doing this. And so, what do you want to know? she asks. She is very keen on not making mistakes, because, I have 10,000 followers on twitter, my Facebook account surpassed the friends limit and I beat Navio and Maurice Kirya in terms of Instagram followers. The conversion starts with her academics, she says she has been jumping from school to school because she hoped to find something different in each of them, but it wasnt because she was naughty and got expelled or suspended. Sheila has been to Taibah Junior, City Parents, Taibah College and Kabojja International. She hasnt decided on what to do at campus because, I will have to take my time and ensure that I make the right choice. When it comes to the one thing that has made her so famous, her TV work, she speaks with a lot of reluctance. TV wasnt my dream or passion, it just happened. She says she had escorted her father to WBS TV for a talk show on a weekend and there was a teens show going on. As they waited in the lobby, she kept complaining about the presenter and arguing that she could do better. The WBS management told her to give it a try and after the show, she was taken to studio and told to speak about anything, and she did. The following week she was hired. Then NTV offered her a better deal and the rest is history. She prefers to keep the rest of the interview chatty. What is your biggest phobia? I guess it is letting down the people that I love and who love me. What is your philosophy in life? Believe in [yourself] and do whatever you want to do because hey, we only live once. What are you doing for your 18th birthday? Hmmm, its going to be something very big. I even decided not to hold a [17th] birthday party; just watch the space, it will be the talk of town. Many people on Facebook describe you as a social nag. How does that make you feel? All those are just haters. Do you know such things never bother me? The envy is all because my life is their dream. Tell me about the status of your virginity? Thats a hard question, because so many of my fans and followers want to know; but I am waiting for marriage. Your father is a political activist; what is your political affiliation? Despite the fact that I am like his handbag - which I love being - I am not into politics and dont think I ever will be. Whats your advice to many teenagers out there? My advice goes out to not only teenagers but [all] people out there, if you believe that you can do something, then you can; and if you believe that you cant, then you are probably right.
