Life with Ulcerative Colitis: Here is an example of what it is like living with UC. I had the pleasure of being in remission in September/October. Here is the story of my going back into a flare: Oct. 28/13 - I was in remission for about a month. It was amazing to be able to drink black tea, or have a splash of coffee in the morning in hot chocolate to help me start my day. My body loved all the extra nutrients it was able to absorb. Thanks to being able to eat real food again, I was gaining weight. As I don’t need the extra poundage, I was looking to go on a diet. When I am flaring, eating raw veggies is completely out of the question, so I was looking forward to eating healthier. I was getting my grocery list ready and was planning to go shopping that night. I was excited to be a healthier me. @ 2:30 PM - I was at work and I had the urgency to run to the washroom. The washroom is located in the hallway outside our office, so once I get the urge, I cannot wait to finish what I am doing. I enter the washroom and it is busy as usual. I get NO privacy. I stress about the sounds and smells and the hogging of one of two toilets in the women’s washroom. I have a bowel movement (BM) and everything seems fine. I go back to work. 2:45 – the pain and urgency comes back. I am back at the washroom for another BM. I start looking for pain killers. If I stop the pain I can stop the need for washroom runs. I find someone with advil. I am running back and forth from the washroom to my desk until 3:40 when I leave for home. This just came out of nowhere. I question how I went from remission to this so suddenly. The whole drive home from work, I feel nauseous from the pain. I get home and immediately I am in the washroom again. I have this urge to go, but there is nothing to expel except for more of my energy. Not only am I lacking energy due to my disease but I have an 18 month old that has endless energy. So I come home to chasing after that. I have to depend on my husband to play with him and feed him, as well as make me peppermint tea. I am not eating tonight. It is 6:00 and all I can think about it laying down and sleeping this off. The groceries are not getting done. My tummy has grown due to the inflammation and I look like I am in my second trimester of pregnancy when I am not pregnant at all
