Lifestyle issues related to longevity and cancer survival are closely connected and our programs are based on research in both of these areas. Here is the conclusion from a recent study: "Lifestyle factors in midlife are strongly related to mortality. Our study shows the advantage of avoiding smoking and overweight, as well as being in good physical shape, in the sense of a greater probability of reaching at least 85 years of age. The prevalence of overweight and physical inactivity is increasing in high-income countries. This underlines the importance of informing the general population about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Increased probability of longevity may be easier to understand for the general public than reduced mortality rates." biomedcentral/1471-2458/13/831
