Light freezing rain mixed with light snow is falling across - TopicsExpress

Light freezing rain mixed with light snow is falling across Southern, Southeastern, and Southwestern Kansas as of 9:39pm CST - 0339 GMT. This is in response to an upper-trough. The cold front has slowed some and is positioned across Southeastern Oklahoma, Northwestern and North Central Arkansas, and extends into Western and Northwestern Texas westward into Southern New Mexico. (Click see more for additional information). Any precipitation for tonight will remain north of Interstate 40. What does fall will fall upon frozen ground where temperatures are slightly above freezing. This will cause surfaces to become slick and hazardous before Midnight tonight. Then after Midnight temperatures will fall below freezing north of I-40 where precipitation is falling and change over from rain, to freezing rain, then to sleet and snow mixed. Coverage and intensity will increase overnight as the upper-trough approaches from Western Texas and interacts with the moisture being pulled over the cold front. Once this passes through Saturday through late evening well have a brief break. Sunday afternoon February 2 Ground Hog day the main upper trough will move through and bring a more significant round of frozen or mixed precipitation to the entire area. Winter weather advisories are in affect at this time. But I suspect these will be extended or expanded in coverage especially Sunday evening and into Monday morning February 3. Monitoring is highly recommended through February 5 2014 for additional statements as this passes through the area. Brian R Cross. Product entered speech engine.
