LightWalk Daily Devotional Thursday December 18, 2014 KNOW WHAT IS WRITTEN But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. - Matthew 4:4 One day i began studying details of the temptation Jesus went through as He exchanged views with the devil. It was evident that Jesus had a standard pattern of replying known as It is written. And of course if i had to modify that i would say it is written or said by God. And interestingly enough, i also found out that the devil knew things that are also written in the Bible! He knows Gods promises given to His children. Isnt that amazing? In verse six of our opening chapter, the devil also said it is written... He said that after he noticed Jesus confronted his temptations with a series of it is written. How good too, Jesus knew Gods Word! He knew what God had said! And knew that what God says is worth trusting without having to tempt Him. Nothing stabilizes your confidence like knowing God said so. You see, the devil has to know what God has said to be able to truly tempt you. Else his temptations wouldnt be founded, concrete, or genuine. You can only tempt me by an alternative. This, Jesus knew well. And so the devil began also flowing on the it is written wavelength. Unfortunately his it is written will often be out of context and some times incomplete. My focus here is, see how much of Gods Word Jesus knew! And see also what the devil knew. Its not for nothing that Jesus said, ...if you abide in me and my Word abide in you... (John 15:7). The enemy is able to cause just anyone dangle out of the path of faith without an abiding word to confront his doubts or fears. What do you say when he tells you you are sick? What do you say when he tells you you are poor? What do you say when he calls you a sinner? What do you say when he says God wont provide? Or when he says you are going to die. Without the word of God in you, often you do go speechless and succumb to his lies! Or take an alternative to what Gods Word says! Youve got to know for yourself what is written. We dont have corporate temptations. We are tempted individually! Its what we individually know that matters. You cant borrow my knowledge to help your faith! Youve got to know Gods Word! Know His promises to you! Keep them and see how life turns out. Glory to God. | PRAYER Faithful Father, i thank You for Your Word given to me. Your Word alone is worth my absolute trust. For what you say is what you have also done. I commit myself to studying Your Word and promises daily, and to know it for myself. For therein is the strength of my faith. Thank You for giving me divine understanding. In Jesus Name. Amen. ¶Study More: Acts 17:10-11 LightWalk Daily Devotional: e-edition by Daniel N. Allo
