Lighted a lamp with music maestro Peruvanam Kuttan Marar and reputed painter Kaladharan to inaugurate a four day maiden exhibition of the paintings of Kasturi Narayanan Kutty ( in black on white shirt ) my college mate and friend from Kodungallur . The exhibition EVOLUTIONS is on till Oct 28 at DURBAR HALL, FIRST FLOOR KOCHI . 11AM to 7PM. The mature work of this friend who is not trained in fine arts is a revelation. Medley of themes and ruminations including a stunning work on mass poverty , deprivation , abandonment , fear & isolation titled EXTREME : Bodies of the wretched of this earth in deep lilac against sullen ash grey. There is in the collection a colorful contrast of a close up of the face a sweet girl with down cast eyes which Narayan Kutty has titled The abandoned soul of India.All the paintings are acrylic on canvas. Such intense social gaze amidst the mythological portrayals in temple mural style and a Padminiesqe untitled brooding face of wide eyed girl which you find placed o the floor of the gallery . And the artist tells me it is the imagined face of a girl who once shared a bench and stammer with him in the primary classes. Narayanan Kutty is evolving and I am sure with such love for life and eye for people the artist will soon settle down to his signature style It was a togetherness .moment . Old friends Thamban Ravi , Com TN Joy , Kasthuri Nandan , Razak Mash , Missed Muhammed and that great artist soul from Muziris Krishna Kumar who both died young Our common friend Film Maker TV Chandran could not join as he was unwell. .
