Lighthouse Beam March 22, 2014 Once upon a time, there was a cat that died. When she got to heaven, God asked her how she liked being on earth. She told the Lord that it was awful -- she had to sleep in cold black alleys, where there was no food and life was hard. God told her that he was sorry it had had turned out that way -- but here, in heaven, she would be happy and He would give her the most comfortable, warm pillow to sleep on.. The cat lay down upon the pillow and was happy. A few days later, about a dozen mice that came to heaven together and God asked them how they had liked earth. The earth was no better for them than it was the cat. They explained to God that it was tough and exhausting and their feet were worn out from always running from cats and dogs and people. God felt bad for the mice and decided to give them roller-skates. One day God sees the cat again and asked her how she liked heaven. She explained that it was absolutely wonderful. The pillow he gave her was the most comfortable place that she had ever slept on, but even better than the pillow was the meals on wheels. ------------------------------------------- Dad: What do you boys want for dinner tonight? Son, 8: Can we have McDonalds tonight? Dad: Suuuure if you can spell that, then well have it. Son (after thinking for a few seconds): Can we get KFC then? ------------------------------ Your future depends on many things, but mostly on you. -Frank Tyger ------------------------------ Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. — 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 Thought Love does not focus on myself, but on others. Each of these qualities of love is based upon an affectionate, compassionate, and forgiving attitude that regards others as being valuable and not just placing value on myself and my desires. No wonder the old saying goes The middle of sIn is a big I! When I become more important than others and what I want and that I win is more significant than what someone else truly needs, then I have lost my way and do not display the love of Christ. --------------------------------------- Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. — 1 Corinthians 13:6-7 Thought Always love -- pretty tall order and pretty tough stuff. Only God is always. But then Christians are fueled to an always love through the Holy Spirit! Elsewhere, Paul tells us that The love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Rom. 5:5) No wonder this love is always — it is Gods love, demonstrated by Jesus sacrifice, and delivered by the Holy Spirit! -------------------------------------------- The real problem is in the hearts and minds of men. It is not a problem of physics but of ethics. It is easier to denature plutonium than to denature the evil from the spirit of man. — Albert Einstein -------------------------------------------------- IN LOVING MEMORY OF BEKAH STEVENS --------------------------------------------------- Have you ever done something bad enough that you hope no one finds out or that if they do you think that youd probably die from embarrassment? If we had a completely honest moment, most of us would probably admit to that. Now most of us arent murderers or something worse, but what about those who are? Is there no hope for them? Does God just toss them in the trash? Well, read on... You cant understand. Ive done things to my family, to strangers, to myself. The words were said almost defiantly and his eyes looked straight into the missionaries. Then he lowered his gaze to his hands and almost whispered, Im bad and no god could forgive me! His words were not the first he had heard with the same or similar thoughts. Hed heard them in Africa, Spain, Cuba, and in every state hed visited. His colleagues tell similar stories from their travels across the world. Yes, there are people in this world that have done Horrible, Awful, Unspeakable things to children, family members, strangers, and to themselves. Some of these offenders have no regard for themselves or for others. Yet, the great God Almighty sent His Son to die for them as well as for you. There is a God who can forgive all the heinous acts anyone can perform. There is a God who allowed His only Son to save all of us by paying the price none of us deserved. There is a God who can take the worst sinner and transfer him or her into a forgiven saint. Yes, there is a God who loved you so much that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. Because God did not send His Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it. Why does He love you so much? Why would He forgive you of all those wounds youve caused? Why would He care? The third chapter of John should be a very familiar chapter to you, we can see just how much God really loves us. John 3:16 & 17 ought to be very familiar to you. So read this chapter again and wrap your head around just how much God loves us, if you can. At times I think that my head might explode when I try to imagine it! And remember...
