Lightning lessons learned. 2.0. One can never have enough - TopicsExpress

Lightning lessons learned. 2.0. One can never have enough copper grounding rods in the earth when living on a plateau closer to all the gods of lightning when they partay and do their wrath. The ground strikes of last Wednesday were close to burning down the house. The phone filter blew apart in the living room, scorching the wall and blowing up the modem, frying lines. Computer was unplugged in in my car for checking weather at a work site. Note to self...keep valuable components unplugged while gone. It also hearkens back to a similar incident whilst living on Signal Mountain, where a literal bolt out of the blue struck back, 20 minutes after the main passage, hitting a magnificent white pine in the front yard, zapping me through the mouse at the keyboard, sending my pup Babe, halfway to the ceiling, and also wiping out all the phone lines. The scariest part of that one was, when having time a couple of days later, crawling under the house to replace phone lines, passing by the gas lines, noticing this beautiful, unexpected blue light in the dark, and realizing it was a gas line that had sagged, touched the ground, been zapped, ignited upon lightning strike, thus saving me from gas buildup under the abode that would have send me flying into the arms of the thunder gods in their high heavens. I also learned to pay the extortion fee of the land line providers to avoid huge costs for acts of all the gods as they pay. Free repair...free modem...funny and fun tech support. Alll is right with the world of FB, internet and phone service again. Last urging..When in doubt, crawl under your house to ensure you have one the next day.
