Lights to Go out Throughout Lincolnshire at 10pm for First World War Tribute 20 hours ago Lights to go out throughout Lincolnshire at 10pm for First World War tribute. Lights across Lincolnshire will be turned off at exactly 10pm tonight to mark the night war broke out a century ago. The Lights Out national campaign will be marked across the county with several events taking place. Everyone is being given the chance to take part by turning off their lights at exactly 10pm on Monday, August 4, and leaving on a single light or candle until 11pm. Both Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle will mark the occasion with single candle tributes, along with City of Lincoln Council. All lights will be turned off in the Guildhall and the Mayor Brent Charlesworth will light a single candle in the central window above High Street at 10pm, which he will blow out at 11pm. Before lighting the candle, the Mayor and Civic Party will take part in the World War One Commemoration Service and parade, starting from the war memorial in High Street and ending in a vigil at St Mary le Wigford Church. North Kesteven District Council has organised a Lights Out service in Sleafords St Denys Church from 10pm to 11pm. It will be a combination of readings and music by candlelight with performances from the Tennyson Collective – a brass quintet consisting of serving and retired servicemen and local musicians. Horncastle Royal British Legion is holding a vigil at the War Memorial Hospital with the county chaplain Canon John Thorald, as well as Army and air cadets. The legions Coningsby and Tattershall District Branch are holding candle-lit vigils at the war memorials in both villages. They will read the names of the fallen, along with a history of each person. East Lindsey District Councils former RAF Manby headquarters will also be plunged into darkness, with the exception of a single light left on in the leaders office. Skegness Illuminations will be turned off for an hour. The only light remaining will be the one illuminating the Clock Tower face, which will be frozen at 10pm as a mark of respect and remembrance. And the clock will stay at 10pm for 12 hours to allow for continued reflection. A single lamp will be lit and displayed in the main reception area at Boston Borough Councils Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex in Rowley Road. South Holland District Council, in Priory Road in Spalding, is also turning off its lights. Surfleet RBL is holding a service in the village church – and the Sutton-on-Sea Residents Association will hold a short service at 3pm today. -> Read more at Lincolnshire Echo eastmidlandsnews.org.uk/news/lights-to-go-out-throughout-lincolnshire-at-10pm-for-first-world-war-tribute
