Lightwave 3D kicks absolute BUTT! If you need photo real output, if you want photo real out put, or anything else you can imagine, you can make it in LightWave 3D! YOU can make it in Lightwave 3D! ...with a little practice. In a week you can become proficient enough to model any shape, animate discrete objects (inanimate models such as balls, cars, and power tools). In another week you can be walking and talking character models. By now you have a good clue as to how to deal with texturing surfaces to achieve moderate realism with some stuff thats downright impressive. If you watch this in YouTube, youll see links for tutorial vids that cover all the stuff I used to have to pay $50/DVD for.
