Like ALL my relatives who served on Palas Tribal Council before me - TopicsExpress

Like ALL my relatives who served on Palas Tribal Council before me (when there was NO money), I care deeply for The Pala Indian Reservation. So, I will leave this up for everyone to consider. In the last 6 years weve spent approximately 80% of our rainy day fund (mostly due to bonuses). I hear this may be the last year we can afford to pay out a bonus. So my question is: what have we done in the last 2 years (since I left office) to grow our rainy day fund? What meaningful growth opportunities have we pursued that is currently paying out? I know the EC has ideas, but ideas must eventually turn into tangible results. Another fact: in the last 5 years weve seen nearly a 20% reduction to per capita payments, mostly due to the overall economy. However, other businesses are starting to recover and the stock market is at historic highs. But not us. Pala Casino has not seen any meaningful growth since the economic crash 6 years ago. I hear Pala is instituting a new sales tax on our customers at our casino and resort, which will give a slightly positive bump to the numbers. However, raising taxes is not the same as innovating a new growth strategy for acquiring market share in our industry. Collecting a tribal tax from customers is a small solution to a much bigger problem. We need to innovate, or else find people who can. Socially, our reservation families are more closed off and isolated than ever before. Bullying and meanness have crept into our daily culture and has become acceptable. The answer to fixing our social problems is not one that the Pala Government can tackle with policy. The solution lies within the hearts of the People of Pala. The People of Pala, the family heads, must be united. We cannot heal our community until we first heal ourselves. We must bridge the gap between families. We must soften our hearts. This time, My goal is to be a tribal servant, not a tribal leader. With a humble heart let us set the record straight. I want only to show love, kindness and forgiveness to everyone in our tribe and community. The Great Saint Francis of Assisi reminds us that in order for us to be forgiven and to be loved, we must first forgive and love. I have, and I shall continue. I want your help; I need your help. My message is one of pursuing New Social AND Financial growth opportunities for our tribe. The tribe paid for my education at the Marshall School of Business and also an executive program at the Harvard Business School. Let me pay this knowledge back. Let me earn your support and let me work for you. Im running for Vice and your support is the ONLY way I can win. Like all my relatives who served on Palas Tribal Council (Before there was any money), I care deeply for The Pala Indian Reservation. My thoughts are shared with you as a way to get us thinking about how we can grow together. Thank you for your time and consideration of my opinion. :) -Kilma Lattin
