Like I said, my mom was born and raised in the Ozark Mtns in Arkansas. She had two sisters and two brothers, another sister that died at about 6 wks. One sister married at 13 yrs old to Dilford who was about 32 at the time. They had a wonderful life and raised 6 kids. Mom met dad in California during the war and married when she was 17. When I was about 10 yrs old I went with mom and dad to visit her relatives in the Mtns. Her grandpaw was 92 at the time, in 1958, and he lived in a one room place with no electricity or plumbing. He did have the luxury of a board walk to the outhouse. Went with mom to a cemetery to put flowers on some graves and along the narrow dirt road I saw old shacks where people lived. One man was standing in the yard of a shack, dogs and chickens on the porch. He was quite a colorful person..(brown) dirty bare feet,( blue) coveralls, (black) hat, (grey) hair, (yellow) shirt, that was white when it was new, a big chunk of dried (red) watermelon in his beard, and (green) teeth, all 5 of them. I am not makin this up. Only the names have been changed to protect the guilty..... And yes, my Mother was a wonderful person. I miss her dearly. My parents were married for 52 years.
