Like everyone else, I mourn the loss of James Gandolfini, a skilled and versatile actor, whose understated "everyman" appeal resonated easily with his audiences, reminiscent of another recently departed great Italian-American actor, Ernest Borgnine. He was also a humanitarian who used his celebrity in support of causes as diverse as breast cancer research and the problems of injured Iraq War veterans. This was a fine and gentle man, who will truly be missed.
