Like it or loathe it, the can has a dubious place in the history of American beer. While it made the transport of suds much more convenient, most beer fans found the taste of their canned brew to be noticibly inferior to both bottles and tap. On this day in 1933 Gottfrieds Finest Beer made its debut and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Today canned beer accounts for about half of all beer sales.
