Like many of you, Ive been struggling with the news that Pierre is leaving us and keep coming back to the same thought: Why are amazing principals forced to move to fix other schools when, in fact, they should be rewarded for BEING amazing by being given the opportunity to be an equal voice in the decision to either move or stay at any given school. What incentive does one then have for continuing to be great when their own happiness and job satisfaction is on the line each and every year? Would the CSV prefer their great employees to be mediocre instead? Weve all seen Pierre sweat with worry each year over whether or not he would be allowed to stay at lHeritage ... how is this fair or even reasonable?! I get that the bigger picture here is that the schools in the CSV are competing with other public schools and need better curb appeal to secure higher enrollment numbers, but getting someone to fix a school and then shipping them off when theyre half way through the job is only a recipe for future principal-burnout. Theyre giving no thought to whats best for the principal or the outgoing school and only what might be best for the receiving school and the school boards overall image. Schools are NOT businesses and shouldnt be run like they are - great principals shouldnt be head-hunted into positions, they should be allowed to build solid relationships with staff, students and parents and then be able to reap the reward of their hard work by being allowed to watch the school community flourish under their leadership. I feel utterly betrayed by the school board that, up until now, has been so very welcoming and accepting of ours and, I assume, everyones personal situations - whether our children come from strong French backgrounds or not. I was witness to the sadness at lHeritage last week - in the students, parents and in Pierre, himself. This is NOT OK. We NEED to speak up. And if I could write all of this in French, I would.
