Like millions of pet owners nationwide, your pet is an important member of your family and survival for them in an emergency depends largely on the planning you do today. Assemble a “pet survival” kit that can easily be deployed if disaster hits. The kit should include: pet food, bottled water, medications, veterinary records, cat litter/pan, manual can opener, food dishes, first aid kit and other supplies. Also, make shelter plans for your pet as many emergency shelters cannot accept pets due to public health reasons. Research and keep a list of motels and hotels in the area that allow pets.
