Like most people around the world who are into animation, incredible storytelling and good taste overall, were huge fans of the recently-retired (well have to see if it sticks this time!) filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki. From his stellar and award-winning works of Princess Mononoke, Howls Moving Castle, Spirited Away and more, Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli have crafted incredible and fully-developed female characters. Thankfully for us, we have Oakland University Cinema Studies major Tayler Mandziaras well-penned essay that serves as a great primer for looking into the #anime shojo genre through the Miyazaki lens.
