Like other muscles your vocal cords shorten and become cold when we arent using them during the night. Thats why our voices are deeper in the morning when we wake up. Most of us dont use our voice much at all from the time we awake to the first time we sing on Sunday. Singing will feel easier for you at church if you take some time to warm up. But do it gently, gradually and naturally. Start using your voice gently when you first wake up, whether its just humming, reading aloud or even gentle, light singing. Continue to do so on the drive to church. Try humming through scales that take you from your chest voice up into your head voice. But make sure youre maintaining only moderate volume with no pushing or straining. Give it a shot!
